I’m interested in forced ignorance. A state of emptiness, where content and formal devices are vacant, allowing for something viscerally human. This is evident in ancient cave painting. These artists lived in a time without art history and an established means of depiction. Instead, their minds were free to create anything their subconscious desired. It is this freedom that I am after. Having been educated in art history and the traditional method of painting, this ignorance has become unattainable. However, my attempts at the impossible produce something real and human, a subconscious honesty. My work exposes these truths and, as a result, shapes my understanding of self. Recently, I’ve uncovered a monster within me. Cultivated in my soccer-jock past, from an internet porn generation, currently I am looking to expose and reject it.
